Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso has been redeployed to Gombe State as the 24th Commissioner of Police, barely days after he assumed duty in Nasarawa State.
The Gombe State Police Command confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi.
According to the statement, CP Chuso takes over from CP Bello Yahaya, who has been redeployed by the Inspector-General of Police to the Police Staff College, Jos.
Following his assumption of office in Gombe, Chuso appealed to residents and key stakeholders to work closely with the police in addressing crime and other social vices in the state.
He stressed that effective policing requires public cooperation, noting that his administration would prioritise community-based policing to enhance intelligence gathering and strengthen police–community relations.
CP Chuso, who hails from Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State, holds a degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 and has since built a distinguished career across several commands.
Before his redeployment to Gombe, he served as Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State. He has also held strategic positions including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kano and Delta states.
The new police chief has undergone several professional training courses both within and outside Nigeria and is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies.
CP Chuso called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious organisations, youth groups and residents of Gombe State to support the police through timely information sharing and active participation in community policing initiatives.
He assured the people of the state of his commitment to safeguarding lives and property and to maintaining peace and security across Gombe.
