The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Ogun I Area Command, has been reassured by the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, Idiroko, ACP Adejumo Segun and the Border Patrol Commander of their willingness to collaborate in the fight against smuggling and illegal trade.
The Area Commander gave the assurance on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Customs headquarters in Idiroko.
ACP Segun also expressed a strong desire to build upon the existing rapport between the agencies, stressing that their primary focus remains on ensuring the safety of residents in border communities.
DAILY POST reports that the meeting centred on fostering an all-inclusive policing strategy to dismantle trans-border crime and economic sabotage.
In response, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, stated that although the Idiroko axis is currently peaceful, preserving this stability calls for coordinated actions to disrupt smuggling networks and ensure strict intelligence sharing.
Afeni emphasised that national security is a shared duty and urged members of the Nigeria Police Force and the NCS to see each other as allies rather than competitors in the field.
“This collaboration directly supports the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, core mandates of collaboration, consolidation, and innovation,” he added.
Afeni assured the police force of continuous collaboration in intelligence sharing and working together for the benefit of the state.
“Our commitment to fostering strong partnerships with all security agencies and stakeholders remains unwavering.”
