The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has intercepted a massive consignment of codeine syrup valued at N3.39 billion, officials announced on Tuesday.

According to Mr Isa Sulaiman, Public Relations Officer of the command, the seizure was carried out in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Mr Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller, disclosed that the operation took place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, as part of a rapid follow-up enforcement action.

“The consignment, comprising 3,398 cartons, was meticulously concealed inside household utensils. Its duty value is estimated at N3.39 billion,” Oshoba stated.

He added that the seizure indicates the command’s dedication to implementing the directives and strategic vision of the NCS.

“This operation reflects our intelligence-led approach and commitment to making Apapa Port extremely hostile to smugglers and drug traffickers,” he said.

Oshoba noted that the interception followed a visit to the Apapa Command by NCS Comptroller-General Mr Bashir Adeniyi, who had recently issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the port.

He also praised the NDLEA for its seamless support, emphasizing that the collaboration was instrumental in the success of the operation.

“The continued partnership with the NDLEA demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated enforcement in tackling illicit drug trafficking,” Oshoba added.
