The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered top public and political office holders to embark on massive statewide mobilization to encourage citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration, CVR, exercise.
In a statement issued by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the Government of Niger State, SSG, Bago emphasized that the CVR exercise is of immense importance to good governance, democratic consolidation and national development.
The statement disclosed that In view of the limited time allocated for the exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, “Governor Bago has urged all concerned stakeholders to accord the exercise the seriousness it deserves”.
The SSG said public office holders are therefore expected to intensify awareness campaigns and mobilize eligible citizens at the ward and local government levels to ensure maximum participation in the registration process.
“Governor Bago called on top government functionaries, including commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of parastatals, and other political appointees, to mobilize eligible citizens at the ward and local government levels to register, transfer, or update their voter details,” the statement said.
The statement further stated that all affected officials are expected to leverage their offices and community structures to encourage eligible residents, particularly first-time voters and those who need to update their voter information, to take full advantage of the CVR exercise.
Additionally, Bago directed that all political appointees in the state, irrespective of status, should actively assist in the ongoing e-membership registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Niger State.
This initiative, the governor noted, is aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures and deepening internal democracy, the statement stressed.
The statement expressed confidence in the cooperation of all concerned officials, stressing that their collective commitment will significantly contribute to increased civic participation and democratic development in the state.
