Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has said he is no longer focused on winning a Grammy, signaling a shift in priorities as he enters a new phase of his career centered on authenticity and African identity.
Speaking on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi on Tuesday, the singer reflected on his global achievements, noting that he has performed worldwide, sold out major arenas, and secured multiple Grammy nominations in recent years.
Davido said those milestones have given him a sense of fulfillment, allowing him to move away from the pursuit of Western validation and instead concentrate on making music that reflects his roots.

“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere and sold out every arena. I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido; it is very African. We have done it, so I am not really looking to really do western sounds,” he said.
He added that his strong fanbase across Africa, particularly in South Africa, where he has built deep collaborations, reinforces his decision to focus on a sound that resonates more closely with the continent.
