Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani has explained that political party defections and transfers are legally permissible in Nigeria, urging supporters to desist from insulting aspirants.

Sani, in a cryptic tweet on his X handle on Saturday, using football clubs, reacted to speculations that chieftains of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso may be defecting to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, next week.

His tweet read, “Transfers are legally permitted. Allow Peter and Kwankwaso to leave Athletico Madrid to Nothingham Forest FC.

“It’s wrong to insult them,” he said.

DAILY POST had gathered that since the All Opposition Political Party Leaders’ summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, late last month, Peter Obi has not attended any subsequent ADC meetings, fueling speculation of a possible defection to a new political platform.

Also, the absence of former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi were felt at ADC meetings held this week, further fueling the speculation.

This comes as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is reportedly positioning himself strongly for the ADC presidential ticket.
