Renowned Nigerian disk jockey and record producer DJ Tunez has teamed up with Nigerian superstar Wizkid and South African producer DJ Maphorisa to deliver a captivating cross-cultural project titled SOUTH GIDI, showcasing the seamless blend of South Africa's Amapiano rhythms with Nigeria's infectious Afrobeats sound.
The title SOUTH GIDI perfectly captures this union, "Gidi" being a nickname for Lagos (Wizkid's home ground) and "South" representing Maphorisa's South African roots. The EP is a compact but powerful three-track project that captures the essence of unity between two of Africa's most influential music scenes.
The tracklist features:
- "Money Constant" (featuring Mavo)
- "Abangani" (featuring Daliwonga and Madumane)
- "Fiesta Forever" (featuring Zaba and Zeh McGeba)
DJ Tunez, known for his precise ear and soulful production style, curates the project with a refined sense of flow, while DJ Maphorisa infuses each beat with authenticity, groove, and his signature deep-house edge. Wizkid serves as the vocal and creative nucleus of the EP, with his delivery smooth, relaxed, and magnetic, effortlessly gliding over the piano-driven beats.
The project follows studio sessions in London in September 2025, where videos of Wizkid, DJ Tunez, and DJ Maphorisa were shared on social media.
