Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has criticised Karim Adeyemi’s reaction after being substituted during the club’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, confirming that the forward will be fined for his behaviour.
Adeyemi was taken off during the encounter after a subdued performance, but tensions rose when the Germany international attempted to head straight down the tunnel instead of returning to the bench. Kehl intervened on the touchline, stopping the player before he could reach the locker room.
Speaking after the match, Kehl made it clear that the substitution was a footballing decision and fully justified. He did not hide his disappointment with Adeyemi’s display or his reaction to being withdrawn from the game.
“His substitution was completely justified. He didn’t play well,” Kehl said. “He will receive a fine for that. There will be something to talk about.”

The Dortmund director stressed that such conduct does not align with the standards expected at the club, adding that neither the coaching staff nor the players condone that type of response. “I don’t want to see that reaction; the coach doesn’t, and the team doesn’t,” he added.
Adeyemi, who has struggled for consistency this season, is regarded as one of Dortmund’s key attacking options, but the incident has raised questions about discipline and attitude within the squad during a demanding campaign.
Dortmund are expected to address the matter internally, with discussions between the player, coaching staff and club management aimed at ensuring the focus remains on team unity and performance as the season progresses.
