Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, alleged to be involved in interstate ammunition trafficking, with 200 rounds of new ammunition recovered.

The suspect was apprehended at one of Kano’s major motor parks after allegedly purchasing the ammunition from Lafia for delivery to Kankara.

The DSS said the suspect, who hails from Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, was intercepted in Kano during an operation following a tip-off.

She reportedly confessed that the ammunition was supplied to her from Lafia and delivered to Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano for onward transportation to Katsina for bandits operating in the Kankara bush.

The suspect further claimed she had been involved in the trade for about two months, adding that one “Teso”, whom she described as working with a soldier in Lafia, used to send the consignments to her.

She also alleged that she supplied the ammunition to a bandit identified as Mallam Haruna, said to be operating in the Kankara forest.

According to her, she was introduced to the alleged bandit by a man identified as Sulaiman, a livestock trader based in Kano.

She claimed to have conducted transactions worth about N5 million, supplying ammunition to Haruna and other individuals identified as Buba and Abu, who were also said to be operating in the forest.

The suspect expressed regret over her involvement, stating that she had now been exposed.
