Easter Celebration: NSCDC, FRSC deploy 2860 personnel in Edo

The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and the State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have announced the deployment of a total of 2860 personnel across the state for the next Monday Easter celebration.

DAILY POST reports that the two security agencies said the deployment of the personnel is to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the celebration.

The State Commandant of NSCDC Commandant, Akintayo Saidi Ayinla and his FRSC counterpart Sector Commander Cyril Zango Mathew disclosed this in a separate statement.

The NSCDC and the FRSC statements were made available to newsmen on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Benin City by Ogbebor Efosa, and Patricia Onwochei, Public Relations Officers of the agencies respectively.

In the statement, the NSCDC Commandant said 2000 personnel were drawn from various specialised units of the Corps, including the Armed Squad, Female Special Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Disaster Management Unit, and the Commandant’s Monitoring Team.

He said the operatives have been strategically deployed across the three senatorial districts of the state.

He added that the personnel are deployed to critical public locations such as markets, recreational centres, highways, worship centres, and other vulnerable points.

He said the locations would be adequately secured to prevent criminal activities and ensure the protection of lives and property.

According to him, the deployment is part of proactive measures aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free celebration for residents of the state, particularly Christian faithful observing the festive period.

“All Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been directed to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and implement proactive security measures within their respective jurisdictions”, he said.

Ayinla added that the Command will collaborate closely with other security agencies in the state to ensure robust security coverage, prompt response to emergencies, and sustained public safety throughout the festive period.

While congratulating Christian faithful in the State on the successful completion of the Lenten season, he urged them to celebrate responsibly and in compliance with the law.

He warned individuals with criminal intentions to steer clear of the state, stressing that the Corps remains resolute and fully prepared to deal decisively with any threat to peace and security.

He reassured the general public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

On its part, the FRSC, said it deployed a total of 860 personnel comprising 510 Regular Marshals and 350 Special Marshals.

The Sector Commander, Cyril Mathew, also added that 18 patrol vehicles, two heavy-duty trucks, three ambulances, and two Power bikes are deployed to ensure that all parts of the state are covered.

Mathew stated that in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal, RS 5.1 Edo Sector Command embarked on a Special Patrol for Easter Celebration towards achieving a reduction in Road Traffic Crashes during the period and beyond.

He said the Easter operation commenced on April 1, and was to end on April 8, 2026.

He listed areas of offences the personnel will focus on during the operation to include excessive Speed, dangerous driving and overtaking, Tyre violation (Expired/substandard, Lane Indiscipline and Road obstruction.

Others are the use of a phone while driving, overloading, mixing loading of vehicles with passengers, animals and goods and other offences.
