Ebonyi Govt terminates contract with 3rd Retail Africa, assumes management of shopping mall

Ebonyi State Government has announced the termination of the contract with 3rd Retail Africa, the former management of the Ebonyi Shopping Mall.

The decision was said to be owing to findings made during an official visit to the mall, where concerns were raised over its management.

In a statement signed by Leo Oketa, Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, the Government revealed that the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Shopping Mall would now oversee the mall’s operations.

Governor Nwifuru emphasized that the Government’s primary objective remains to boost economic activity, create employment, and offer commercial convenience to Ebonyi residents.

He disclosed that a meeting was held with mall managers and shop owners, where grievances, particularly about poor electricity supply were openly addressed.

As part of immediate interventions, the governor noted that the Government has offset the outstanding electricity bill owed to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

“Negotiations are underway to establish a more realistic monthly electricity bill for the mall, considering the current economic situation.

“The Government will also take over the maintenance of essential infrastructure, including escalators, air conditioning systems, and backup power generators,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor confirmed that electricity supply to the mall has now been restored.
