The crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is gradually snowballing into a major one as the party places the lifting of the suspension of Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s loyalists and that of the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, in abeyance.

DAILY POST reports that the State Working Committee of the party had on Thursday, October 30, 2025, lifted the suspension earlier placed on some of erring members of the party, while those perceived to be loyalists of Adams Oshiomhole, a senator representing Edo North senatorial district at the National Assembly and the minister were not lifted.

A statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Peter Uwadiae, revealed that the party has tightened the noose on the lifting of suspension of the two leaders’ allies.

The statement said that one of the resolutions taken at the SWC meeting was the lifting of the suspension of Valentine Asue, the 2023 Edo South senatorial candidate of the party.

Asue, who is the current chairman of the Edo State Forestry Commission, was suspended on August 25, 2025, for allegedly inciting division within the party as well as alleged anti-party activities.

The party also lifted the suspension on one Mrs Stella Ogbetta, the Woman Leader of Ward 10 in Oredo Local Government Area.

Uwadiae said the lifting of the suspension of the duo was with immediate effect.

According to the statement, the State Working Committee (SWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter, at its meeting, Thursday, deliberated extensively on various issues affecting the smooth running and cohesion of the party across the state.

“After due consideration and review of reports presented before it, the following resolutions were reached: The suspension of Valentine Asue and Mrs Stella Ogbetta, the Woman Leader of Oredo Ward 10, is hereby lifted with immediate effect.

“The Committee enjoins them to resume their party activities and continue to contribute positively to the growth and unity of the APC in their respective jurisdictions”, he said.

He, however, added that in respect to Alhaji Abubakar Akokhia, the former party chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area, the committee has directed the current party chairman of the local government to furnish the SWC with a comprehensive report of the suspended former chairman’s present relationship with the party in the locality.

He said the directive is to guide the Committee in determining the next line of action regarding the possible lifting or otherwise of the former local government party suspension.

He stated that the committee has been urged to give due consideration to his conduct since the period of his suspension.

Uwadiae also added that the suspension of Mallam Adamu Ototobor, the Ward 9 Chairman in Etsako East Local Government Area, remains in force until further notice.

He said that the committee advised all members to remain law-abiding and committed to the principles and discipline of the party pending further directives.

DAILY POST reports that while Alhaji Abubakar Akokhia is a good ally of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Mallam Adamu Ototobor is the chairman of Abubakar Momoh’s ward in Etsako East Local Government Area.

Akokhia was the two-time chairman of the party in Etsako West Local Government Area and was also the chairman of chairmen of the party in the State

Akokhia is the father of the present lawmaker in the Edo State House of Assembly, Abdulganiyu Akokhia representing the Etsako West II constituency.

He was one of the most vocal supporters of Oshiomhole during his ordeal as the National Chairman of APC as well as the battle with the former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The suspended local government chairman of the party is in the same Etsako West local government area and constituency II in the State House of Assembly with Adams Oshiomhole and Jarret Tenebe.

It was alleged that the suspension of the ward chairman by Jarrett Tenebe, the State chairman of the party, did not go down well with the Minister, who threatened to report him to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It was also alleged that the Minister accused Jarret Tenebe of unilaterally suspending the ward chairman without any consultation with the leaders of the party in Etsako East local government area.
