The Borno State Government has issued a new security alert to residents of Maiduguri ahead of Eid prayers, urging vigilance amid intelligence of a possible attack.
Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed the alert during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, revealing that security agencies have received reports of planned attacks in the city.
“We have intelligence that two suicide bombers may be operating in Maiduguri, and we are calling on everyone to remain alert,” the governor said.
Zulum explained that the warning follows recent developments in the state, noting that insurgents, pressured by ongoing military operations, may target softer locations to create panic.
“Such attacks are often used as diversions when terrorists are weakened in their strongholds,” he stated.
Despite the threat, the governor expressed confidence in security forces, assuring residents that enhanced measures have been put in place to safeguard the city during the festive period.
