Electoral Act: Senate only created ambiguity – Former lawmaker, Bugaje

Former member of the House of Representatives, Usman Bugaje, has said that the Senate only succeeded in creating ambiguity in the the passage of the Electoral Amendment Act.

This was as he said that the red chamber of the National Assembly never wanted the real-time electronic transmission of election results.

Bugaje made this statement during an interview on ‘Sunday Politics’, a programme on Channels Television.

He was reacting to the Electoral Amendment Act passed by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.

DAILY POST reports that Tinubu signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law barely 24 hours after it was passed by the National Assembly.

Airing his own opinion, the Islamic Scholar, Political Activist and Civil Society Leader, “What we saw and what everybody knew was that the Senate was insisting that there should not be that mandatory electronic transmission of results in real time.

“When the pressure was much, they now caved in by producing or creating ambiguity.”
