A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kenneth Okonkwo, has slammed the Senate for approving both manual and electronic transmission of election results.
DAILY POST earlier reported that the Senate, during its emergency plenary on Tuesday, amended Section 60 of the Electoral Act to allow presiding officers at polling units to electronically transmit election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Results Viewing Portal (IREV).
The legislation also allows INEC officials to resort to manual transmission when and where there is no mobile network.
The decision of the Senate followed public outrage over its earlier rejection of electronic transmission.
Reacting, Kenneth Okonkwo, in an interview on Channels TV, slammed the lawmakers, describing the outcome of the emergency plenary as “419.”
He said, “What I saw today in the Senate was treachery, it was deceit, it was 419.
“They were simply saying that when there is a technical glitch by INEC, then use manual, and that is exactly what happened in 2023.
“What we have been saying is unconditional transmission of results from polling units. We don’t have anything like electronic collation of results.”
