Electricity supply to Nigerians from the National Grid dropped to 3,810 megawatts as of 11 January 2026.
This is according to data from the country’s national grid operator.
The 3,810 megawatts of electricity is the total amount of supply received by the country’s eleven electricity distribution companies and passed on to Nigerians.
The available electricity supply capacity represents a significant drop when compared to the 4,330 megawatts of electricity allocated to discos as of January 5th, 2025.
This means that in less than a week, the country’s electricity allocation to DisCos from the national grid dropped by 520 megawatts.
The development comes as the grid struggles to recover from its latest collapse on December 29th, 2025, which threw the nation into darkness.
The Nigerian National Electricity Regulatory Commission, in its latest quarterly report, said twenty firms sought approval to exit the national grid and secure captive power generation permits in Q3 2025.
