The people of Amechi Uwani Autonomous community in Enugu South Local Government Area have said the preservation of their culture and tradition remains a priority.

This comes amid the preparation for their Ofala festival, a ceremony marked for showcasing rich culture heritage.

In Igboland, Ofala is usually a highpoint of cultural display by different communities, just as it offers opportunity to preserve cultural heritage.

Addressing journalists in Enugu on Sunday, Chairman of the Amechi Uwani Ofala Festival Central Planning Committee, Prof. Victor Nnam said that the role of customs and traditions in the life of the people could not be over-emphasized.

He identified Ofala Festival as part of continued efforts to celebrate traditional leadership and promote cultural heritage.

According to him, the Ofala festival of His Royal Highness, Igwe J.A.E. Ogbodo, the Ohachirieze II of Amechi Uwani Awkunanaw, would showcase customs of the community.

“The Ofala Festival is not just a celebration of our revered monarch, but a vibrant reflection of our people’s rich cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation,” Nnam stated.

“It is an opportunity to showcase the beauty of our customs, strengthen community bonds, and celebrate the Igweship institution, which remains a pillar of identity, unity, and development in Amechi Uwani,” he added.

He said the festival, scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, would showcase traditional dances, cultural displays, royal blessings, masquerade performances, and appearances by notable dignitaries from across Enugu State and beyond.
