Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has disagreed with his Aston Villa counterpart, Unai Emery over his comments on the Premier League title race.

Emery had played down Aston Villa’s chances of competing for the Premier League title this season, despite his side’s 2-1 win against Arsenal on Saturday.

Emery’s side is currently three points behind leaders Arsenal on the Premier League table and one point behind second-position, Manchester City after 15 games.

Speaking at his post-match interview after Aston Villa defeated Arsenal at Villa Park, Emery said when asked if his team could challenge for the title this season: “I am not thinking it. I know 38 matches is very difficult. We’re not a contender.”

However, Arteta disagreed with Emery as he insisted that Villa are contenders for the title after beating the Gunners.

“They are,” Arteta said at his post-match interview when asked if Villa can challenge for the title.

“When you look at where they are, the way they play, they have beaten some big teams, especially at home. Everybody is going to have to play everybody, so at the moment they are where they are, and we are there as well.”
