Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has highlighted that Thiago Silva remains the crucial signing by Frank Lampard that the Blues have yet to replace at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard signed Silva for Chelsea in 2020 after the veteran Brazilian defender departed Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
However, Gallas believes Chelsea have still not filled the void left by Silva, who had cost the Premier League west London club nothing in transfer fees a few years ago.
“When we speak about Chelsea, we know Thiago Silva was the captain of Chelsea, was a player who had more experience, and was helping the young defenders who were around him,” Gallas told OLGB.
“When Silva left, Chelsea did not buy an experienced defender, that is why the defenders have made some mistakes.
“You need someone who’s leading the defensive line. When I look at Chelsea, when they play [against big teams], no one is leading that defense line.”
