Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt has talked about his old team mate Raheem Sterling, who now plays for Feyenoords.
Sterling previously played for Manchester City and Chelsea. Kuyt played for Anfield for six seasons, from 2006 to 2012.
During his final season with the club, which was 2011-12, he played alongside Sterling, who was just starting his time at Anfield.
The Dutchman said he used to think highly of Sterling but changed his mind after Sterling joined Premier League team Manchester City in the summer of 2015.
The manager of FC Dordrecht spoke to ESPN, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, about Sterling’s early talent and praised his strong performance in the English top league.
He said, “That was several years back, he was 16 at the time. We practiced together a few times and had a few games. In the end, I didn’t really like him much because he moved to a big rival team quickly.”
In the only season Kuyt and Sterling played together at Anfield, the Englishman had three matches – all in the Premier League – but he didn’t score any goals.
After joining Manchester City three years later, Sterling went on to win four Premier League titles in seven seasons, scoring 91 goals in the league.
Sterling played for Chelsea for four seasons and also spent one season on loan at Arsenal. After that, he joined Feyenoord in January to finish the rest of the season, after his contract with the Blues was terminated.
The England player has scored 123 goals in the English top league. He has won the competition four times – all while playing for City.
Liverpool came back from a 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League last week by winning 1-0 against Sunderland.
