The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has recorded a major security success with the arrest of fourteen (14) suspected vandals at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The suspects were apprehended at approximately 1900 hours on April 20, 2026, following a swift, intelligence-led operation carried out by FAAN security personnel in close collaboration with the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) and other security agencies stationed at the airport.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly gained unlawful access to the Terminal One construction site by impersonating authorised construction workers.

Their activities were quickly detected and disrupted through the vigilance, surveillance systems, and rapid response of FAAN operatives and partner agencies.

Security officers recovered vandalised materials, including copper wires and iron components, which had been illegally removed from the construction site.

All fourteen suspects, alongside the recovered exhibits, have been handed over to the relevant investigative authorities for further action.

Speaking on the development, Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, said the successful operation demonstrates the Authority’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical aviation assets.

“This successful interception reflects the strength of FAAN’s proactive security framework and the effective collaboration among all security stakeholders operating within the airport environment. We maintain zero tolerance for criminal acts targeting airport infrastructure and will continue to respond decisively to every threat,” he said.

Agbebire added that FAAN remains committed to protecting airport facilities and ensuring the safety and integrity of ongoing development projects across the country.

According to him, the Authority is continuously strengthening surveillance systems, tightening access control procedures, and deepening inter-agency cooperation to deter security breaches and criminal activities.

FAAN also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities within and around airport environments to the appropriate security authorities.
