The Federal Ministry of Education says it is stepping up efforts to attract private sector and international investment to drive education reform across the country.

The Ministry disclosed this in a press release shared on its official handle on March 24 2026, following a CEO Breakfast Roundtable held in Lagos.

According to the statement, the Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the move aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving productivity, innovation and inclusive growth.

The roundtable brought together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to explore new financing options and strengthen collaboration under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.

Alausa noted that while progress has been made in areas such as policy reforms, digitisation and partnerships, challenges like out of school children, learning gaps and skills shortages still persist.

He said efforts are ongoing to expand technical and vocational education, improve teacher capacity, integrate out of school children and scale digital infrastructure.

“The engagement is part of ongoing efforts to mobilise investment and strengthen collaboration for sustainable education reform,” the statement said.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Said Ahmad, described the meeting as important in deepening partnerships across the sector.

“Development partners, including the Global Partnership for Education and the United Kingdom, reaffirmed their support while Italy announced plans to host the fifth GPE Replenishment Conference in Rome,” the ministry added.

It further stated that stakeholders endorsed new financing models and a Basic Education Investment framework, with the Airtel Africa Foundation indicating support for digital learning and connectivity.

The statement added that a Public-Private Education Technical Working Group would be set up to drive implementation and coordinate investments.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to improving learning outcomes through sustained partnerships and accountability.
