Three factories in the Ogijo area of Ogun State have been shut down due to safety violations.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, ordered the shutdown of the factories on Wednesday during an occupational safety and health inspection.
The companies are African Refractory and Allied Products, African Non-Ferrous Industries Ltd., and Metalworld Recycling Ltd.
According to the minister, the companies had consistently disregarded required safety rules despite receiving formal notices dated December 9, 2025.
He added that they failed to conduct hazard training and also did not provide Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, for workers.
“The factories failed to comply with directives. There was no response to the notice and no effort made to address the identified risks,” Onyejeocha said.
She also disclosed that a number of fatalities had been connected to the safety failings, with some incidents going unreported.
Onyejeocha emphasised that the government would not put up with carelessness that puts lives in danger and that the impacted businesses would be subject to penalties in accordance with current labour and safety regulations.
The minister reiterated that adherence to safety regulations is non-negotiable and cautioned industrial operators to secure the required approvals before modifying production procedures or modernising operations.
Meanwhile, Vedanta Metal Industries Ltd., also located in the vicinity, was spared but told to improve its housekeeping procedures immediately.
Recall that in December 2025, the Ogun State Government shut down seven lead acid recycling factories in the axis over possible lead poisoning.
