‘File annual return now or face consequences’ – LIRS to employers

1 hour ago 1

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has reminded employers in the state that the deadline for submitting annual tax returns for the 2025 financial year is 31 January, 2026.

In a statement, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair, said the directive is in line with the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.

He explained that employers are required to fully disclose all employee emoluments and ensure that all applicable taxes are properly remitted.

Subair warned that non-compliance would attract statutory penalties, stressing that tax filing is a mandatory obligation and not a voluntary exercise.

He further stated that all tax returns must be submitted electronically through the LIRS eTax platform, noting that manual submissions are no longer accepted.

The LIRS boss advised employers to file early, verify the accuracy of their employees’ Tax Identification Numbers, and seek support through official LIRS channels when necessary.
