Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service, Taraba State Command, on Monday contained a fire outbreak at Agada A’tah Magami in Jalingo metropolis, preventing damage to nearby buildings and saving property estimated at N17 million.
In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sylvanus Mikailu, the incident was reported at about 8:30 am, and firefighters were immediately mobilised to the scene.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was triggered by an electrical surge in a two-bedroom residential apartment belonging to Mr Usman Abdullahi. The affected building, measuring approximately 50 by 100 feet, was used strictly for residential purposes,” the statement read.
The distress call, according to him, was placed by Mu’azu Bako, prompting the deployment of firefighting personnel led by Saidu Kabiru.
“On arrival, the team conducted a rapid assessment of the situation before launching an aggressive fire suppression operation,” he said.
Firefighters, as stated in the release, successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring structures.
Confirming that no casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident, the Federal Fire Service command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid response, operational discipline and professional firefighting services.
Residents were also encouraged to report fire emergencies promptly by contacting the command on 07064454730 or the national emergency line 112.
Members of the affected area who spoke to DAILY POST said the swift intervention of the fire service personnel prevented the inferno from causing casualties.
The blaze, DAILY POST recalls, occurred barely a few days after a Catholic church was engulfed by fire in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
