Five PDP, one Labour Party Rep defect to APC, citing crisis, seeking alignment

Six members of the House of Representatives—five from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State and one from the Labour Party (LP) in Plateau State—officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.

The defection letters were read during plenary by the Speaker, Rep. Abbas Tajudeen, who quoted the lawmakers as citing internal crises and divisions as their reasons for quitting their former parties.

Speaker Tajudeen officially welcomed the new members to the ruling party, stating that the party was large enough to accommodate all.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors from Enugu State, Rep. Nnolim Nnaji (representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West federal constituency) explained that the strategic move was motivated by the desire for the development of their state.

According to Nnaji, the motive is to align with the central government for unhindered support to the Gov. Peter Mbah to continue to perform credibly in the state.

The lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC from Enugu State include:

– Reps. Nnolim Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West federal constituency)
– Martins Oke (Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani federal constituency)
– Nnamdi Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu federal constituency)
– Anayo Onwuegbu (Aninri Agwu/Oji River federal constituency)
– Chidi Obeta (Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South federal constituency)

Additionally, Rep. Daniel Asama, representing Bass/Jos North federal constituency of Plateau, also moved from the Labour Party to the ruling APC.
