The Gbeleru Royal Family of Igbajo has formally announced the passing of the Owa of Igbajoland, Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III.

In a statement signed by Prince David Adekunle Famodun on behalf of the royal family and obtained by DAILY POST on Sunday, it was gathered that Oba Famodun died on Friday, November 28, 2025, after a brief illness.

The statement said, “On behalf of the Gbeleru Royal Family of Igbajo, I write with a deep sense of loss and gratitude to Almighty God to notify you of the passing of our revered traditional ruler and the 30th Owa of Igbajoland, Oba Philip Adegbogbega Famodun III. Governor Adeleke later installed Oba Ademola Makinde as Owa Igbajo in his place.

The statement recalled that, “the Osun State High Court reinstated the monarch on 30 January 2025. The court’s decision reaffirmed his legitimacy and restored stability to the traditional institution.”

The statement added that, “during his reign, Oba Famodun was widely acknowledged for championing unity and development across Igbajoland. He worked tirelessly to unite the people, promoting peace, understanding and progress.”

The statement also added that the late ruler’s “vision has left an indelible mark on the community and will continue to inspire future generations.
