FRSC convicts 20 drivers for overloading, excessive speed in Ogun

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Command has secured the conviction of 20 motorists for various traffic violations in the state.

The offenders were convicted during the Phase II of FRSC Mobile Court sitting at the Itori unit command, and presided over by Her Worship, Chief Magistrate O.T. Odunsaya.

According to a press statement released on Friday by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi, the offenders were arraigned and subsequently convicted.

“The proceedings saw 20 offenders arraigned and subsequently convicted, with no discharges recorded. A total of 40 offences were documented, 39 of which attracted various fines and none was sentenced to imprisonment,” he said.

Afolabi stated that the enforcement operation focused on safety violations such as speed limit device, overloading, seatbelt and driver’s licence, tyre, vehicle licence, number plate violations, general vehicle maintenance and related traffic infractions.

Speaking during the session, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, emphasized that the exercise is a core component of the command’s sustained enforcement strategy.

Fasakin explained that the mobile courts enhance operational visibility and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations to reduce road traffic crashes across the state’s operational corridors.

He, however, commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the proceedings, noting that the exercise was supported by adequate security from armed personnels.

The commander urged motorists to prioritize safe driving practices and ensure proper vehicle documentation to prevent avoidable injuries and fatalities, stressing that the measure serves as a deterrent to reckless driving and underscores the it’s commitment to prosecuting those who endanger lives on Nigerian roads.
