The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Zamfara State has launched a special patrol to enforce the use of speed-limiting devices and clamp down on reckless driving by truck operators.
The Command’s Public Education Officer, Aliyu Isah, said in a statement on Thursday in Gusau that the decision followed frequent cases of overloading, mixed loading of goods, animals and passengers, and excessive speeding by truck drivers passing through the state.
He explained that the patrol teams would arrest traffic offenders, including those failing to fix speed-limiting devices, covering number plates, or driving unregistered vehicles.
The Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel, warning that violators risk prosecution.
He stressed the need for drivers to strictly comply with safety regulations, especially along the Zamfara-Sokoto highway, to prevent accidents during the ember months.
