Gail of defections at National Assembly as 9 senators, 12 Reps dump parties

There was a hail of defections at the National Assembly on Thursday as a total of 21 federal lawmakers dumped their various political parties for other parties.

At the Senate, nine lawmakers across different political parties defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while 12 of the colleagues at the lower chamber also dumped their various parties for other different parties.

Their letters of defection were addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abass respectively and read at plenary on Thursday.

The senators were Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto State; Eyinnaya Abaribe, Abia; Binos Yaroe, Adamawa; Victor Umeh, Anambra; Tony Nwonye, Anambra; Lawal Usman, Kaduna; Ogoshi Onawo, Nasarawa State; Augustine Akobundu, Abia and Ireti Kingibe, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Of the 12 House of Representatives members who defected, six left the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Party (APC). Five members abandoned the Labour Party and the PDP for the ADC, while one member moved from the Young Progressives Party to the ADC.

Those who defected from the PDP to the APC are James Barka (Adamawa), Kwamoti Bitrus Laori (Adamawa), Zakaria Nyampa (Adamawa), Kobis Thimnu (Adamawa), Midala Balami (Borno), and Mohammed Bargaja (Sokoto).

Lawmakers who defected to the ADC include Afam Victor Ogene (Anambra), Peter Aniekwe (Anambra), Lilian Orogbu (Anambra), Jessey Onakalusi (Lagos), and Murphy Osaro Omoruyi (Edo).
