Ganduje dares Kano Gov to arrest him over alleged inciting statement

Former Kano State governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has dared the state Governor, Abba Yusuf, to arrest him following reports that he (Ganduje) had accused the government of making plans to set up a militia group to tackle bandits that have infiltrated communities in the state.

In a statement on Friday after the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, accused Ganduje of trying to cause tension in the state, adding that the government was considering arresting him over the alleged reports.

“Council deliberated extensively over the recent inflammatory statements made by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who alleged that the state is vulnerable to banditry and further announced plans to recruit 12,000 individuals under a proposed religious police outfit named Khairul Nas,” Waiya had said.

“Less than 48 hours of former Governor Ganduje’s outburst of wanting to create a militia group in the state, bandits infiltrated a Kano community and abducted several people.

“Council noted that the utterances were inciting, reckless, and capable of undermining the security efforts of the Kano State Government and the President Tinubu-led administration, which has demonstrated genuine concern for the plight of its citizens and continues to work tirelessly to safeguard their lives and properties across the nation,” the Commissioner added.

But while reacting to the allegations on Saturday, Ganduje advised his successor to focus on delivering good governance to the people instead of dabbling in political mind games.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, in response to the call for his arrest by the state government, Ganduje, dared Yusuf and the state government to arrest him and prove where he made such a statement.

He described the allegations as a reckless and baseless display of desperation, incompetence, political theatrics and unfounded allegations.

“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the statement reads.

“At a time when communities such as Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, along with other affected areas, are living in fear, the governor has neither visited nor shown empathy toward the victims.

“His continued absence in moments that require leadership speaks volumes about his disconnect from the people he claims to serve.

“Leadership is demonstrated through purposeful action, responsibility, and compassion, not through press conferences and issuing frivolous statements aimed at diverting public attention from one’s failures.”

The former governor insisted that he had never been associated with violence or linked to any acts capable of undermining peace in the state, stressing that his eight-year tenure had earned him commendation for keeping Kano stable.
