Nigerian music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, widely known as Don Jazzy, has spoken candidly about his long-running battle with self-confidence, tracing it back to his university days.
In an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Bounce Radio, the Mavin Records founder disclosed that persistent negative comments about his appearance significantly affected his self-esteem.
According to him, repeated remarks from female students who described him as unattractive left a lasting impression and shaped how he viewed himself for years.
“Girls used to call me ugly in university, and no one wanted to be my girlfriend. It affected my confidence, and that’s why I’m shy and struggle to speak in public till today,” he said.
Don Jazzy added that the experience continues to influence his personal life, noting that he sometimes finds it difficult to fully believe expressions of love from women.
The revelation has sparked conversations online about the long-term impact of verbal criticism on self-worth, even among highly successful public figures.
