Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has convened an emergency security council meeting following a recent wave of attacks and destruction of public property across the state.

The governor, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday signed by Olawale Rasheed, his spokesperson, stated that the meeting was called in response to escalating security concerns linked to alleged political violence.

According to the statement, the meeting is scheduled to hold at the Governor’s Office and will be attended by service commanders.

The statement noted that the gathering would focus on addressing what it described as “the menace of thuggery” allegedly perpetrated by individuals linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeleke was quoted as saying, “I summon this emergency meeting to address this matter of urgent public importance.

“We must question why hoodlums attack public properties while law enforcement agents refuse to make arrests or prevent such threats to public peace.”

The governor further stated that the security council would develop strategies to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and restore public confidence.

“We have a sacred duty to sustain the confidence of the public in the security agencies,” he said.

The development follows heightened political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state, with reports of vandalised campaign materials.

The Imole Campaign Council had accused suspected APC supporters of destroying campaign billboards belonging to both the governor’s campaign and the Accord Party, while the APC campaign council, through its spokesperson, Oluremi Omowaiye, denied the allegations, describing them as false and politically motivated.

Also, DAILY POST had reported that Kolade Eluyera, son of the Accord Women Leader in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state, was killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
