The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has defended the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, amid controversy surrounding his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, Agbese described the allegations as politically motivated attempts to distract the minister from his duties.
He noted that since assuming office, Tunji-Ojo has introduced several reforms within the Ministry of Interior, including measures to clear passport backlogs, improve service delivery, and enhance operations in the Nigeria Immigration Service and Correctional Service.
Agbese said the minister’s initiatives had improved efficiency in key agencies under the ministry, particularly in areas of automation, staff welfare, and revenue generation.
He urged critics to allow due process to take its course on the NYSC matter rather than resorting to what he described as trial by public opinion.
“If there are questions, let the institutions of state handle them — not political jobbers or social media mobs.
“Governance is not about gossip; it’s about delivery. Every citizen can see the difference the Interior Ministry is making — faster services, cleaner processes, and greater accountability,” Agbese said.
The lawmaker maintained that performance should remain the primary measure of public service, adding that unverified allegations risk undermining reform efforts within the ministry.
