Suspected gunmen have attacked herders along Gero Road in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing 13 cows and leaving 12 others injured.

The Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, disclosed the incident to journalists, saying it occurred on Sunday evening while the herders were peacefully grazing in the area.

Babayo described the attack as unprovoked and condemned the violence. He said the matter had been reported to security operatives under Operation Enduring Peace, Sector 6, who later visited the scene.

He also appealed to members of the association to remain calm and avoid any form of retaliation, warning that the attackers may be trying to trigger further violence.

A herder who survived the attack, Jabir Abdullahi, said the assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire immediately. According to him, the sudden shooting forced the herders to run for safety, leaving several cattle dead on the spot and others seriously injured.

He stressed that the herders had not caused any trouble and were only carrying out their normal grazing activities.
