The Edo State House of Assembly suspended its first sitting of 2026 on Tuesday after bullets and gunshot holes were discovered on the roof of the Assembly complex.
Lawmakers arrived for the day’s session but were met with tension following the discovery. The Assembly leadership immediately called in the state police command to investigate the incident.
Majority Leader Jonathan Ebamewu confirmed that the matter was under investigation and announced that plenary had been postponed until further notice.
“We were ready to sit today, and our attention was called to the fact that there was an incident here. I had to call the Commissioner of Police and the DSS. We have left everything to them to investigate and provide a complete report,” he said.
Ebamewu assured that calm had returned to the House, stressing that lawmakers remained focused on their duties but would allow security agencies to thoroughly comb the complex before resuming.
