A surge in traffic to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recruitment portal has led to a crash of the site, leaving some applicants shortlisted for the service’s recruitment unable to partake in the pre-exam exercise slated for Monday.
Ripples Nigeria gathered that on Monday, September 22, 2025, several candidates scheduled to take the test took to the social media platform, X, to express frustration over the glitches.
The online exercise, designed to help candidates familiarise themselves with the system ahead of the actual Computer-Based test (CBT), returned multiple error messages, including “gateway time-out” and “500 internal server error”, a development that left many unable to log in and frustrated.
Some said they had been trying for hours without success, while others questioned the agency’s preparedness.
According to a user, SLIMNAZI posting from the handle, @SlimNazi, several candidates havewere unable to log in while calling out the Customs management.
“90% of people haven’t had any access to the Customs Pre-test site for like an hour, @CustomsNG, what’s the issue?” he wrote.
Another user, Very Old Vini with the handle @OldVinijr expressed his frustration on the issue.
“Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) server has crashed. I cannot access their site for pre-test” he wrote.

Similarly, another user identified as Musty expressed concern that the situation had shown “how unprepared” the recruitment platform was for a national exercise.
“This is what we’re facing during the Nigeria Customs pretest in 2025. How is a national recruitment portal this unprepared?”
“Thousands of applicants are stuck, frustrated, and unheard. Please fix this. We deserve a fair process.”
Acknowledging the glitches in a post on its official X page, NCS attributed the difficulty to heavy traffic on the portal, urging applicants to keep trying.
“The service is aware of the current issue with the site; we’re actively experiencing high traffic, which may cause temporary inaccessibility,” the agency said.
“Kindly keep trying while our team works tirelessly to resolve the issue.”
However, some applicants argued that “trying tirelessly” had yielded the same server errors for hours, insisting the process was unfair.
As at 3.31 a.m, September 23, 2025 candidates were still expressing frustration on their inability to take the test, an indication that the issue still persisted despite Customs assurance of working to fix the issue..
According to NAns
@iamnansmark, the site was still not working.
“Customs na una do this one ooo….Even by this time, the site no gree work??? Chaii… 3:31 am?? he lamented.
