Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially broken a new Guinness World Record — this time for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, with a staggering 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz) cooked and served during a food marathon in Lagos.
The record-breaking feat, achieved in collaboration with food brand Gino, took place on Friday in Victoria Island, Lagos, and was confirmed by Guinness World Records on Monday.
Announcing the achievement on X (formerly Twitter), the Guinness World Record posted: “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
Hilda Baci, who previously gained international acclaim for her record-setting cook-a-thon in 2023, once again spotlighted Nigerian cuisine on the global stage with this bold culinary milestone.
In a show of encouragement during her attempt, Guinness World Records had shared a video on Friday, stating:
“What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”
The event drew massive crowds of fans, food enthusiasts, and celebrities, transforming the venue into a festive celebration of food and culture. Attendees watched in awe as Baci and her team worked tirelessly with industrial equipment and precise measurements to hit the record.

Ahead of the attempt, Baci had revealed that her custom-made pot could hold up to 22,619 litres, and her goal was to fill it to 80 percent capacity. To do that, she initially planned to use about 5,278 kilograms of raw basmati rice — approximately 264 bags — but opted for 250 bags for practical reasons.
However, during a press briefing on Friday, Baci explained that they ultimately cooked 200 bags of rice due to limitations of the weighing equipment.
“If you notice when we started we weighed the pot and we need to weigh every single thing that goes into the pot when we’re done.
The goal was that by the time I was done making 5,000 kilogrammes I was hoping to achieve about 17,000 to 18,000 kilogrammes.
Right now, if I include the weight of the pot, that’s about 20,000,” Hilda said.
Despite reducing the amount of rice used, Baci confirmed that the 200 bags still yielded 4,000 kilograms of cooked jollof rice—enough to feed an estimated 20,000 people.
In addition to the culinary feat, the event turned into a star-studded spectacle. Nollywood icon Funke Akindele joined Baci at the cooking station, praising her determination and even helping stir the tomato-rich base of the dish.
The First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, also made a surprise appearance to support the chef’s efforts.
Other notable celebrities in attendance included Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Peller, Veekee James, Femi Atere, Tacha, Papaya, Samuel Banks, Alex Unusual, Folagbade Banks, and musician Spyro, among others.
With this latest accomplishment, Hilda Baci continues to cement her legacy not only as a record-setter but also as a culinary ambassador for Nigeria’s rich and beloved food traditions.
