History will judge Nigeria harshly over silence on Gaza – MPAC

The Muslim Public Affairs Centre MPAC, said history will not be kind to those who chose silence in the face of injustice.
The group who made this known on Tuesday via a statement, signed by it’s executive chairman, Disu Kamor, called on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene in the ongoing case at the International Court of Justice involving allegations of genocide against Israel.

The group expressed “grave concern” over what it described as Nigeria’s continued silence regarding the case instituted by South Africa, which accuses Israel of violations under the Genocide Convention in relation to the conflict in Gaza.

MPAC noted that recent moves by Netherlands and Iceland to formally intervene in support of South Africa’s case signal what it called a “moral awakening” within the international community.

“The case presents serious allegations, including large-scale civilian casualties, forced displacement, and obstruction of humanitarian aid,” the statement said, emphasizing that these claims raise urgent questions of international justice and human survival.

The organization criticized Nigeria’s stance, describing it as “troubling and unacceptable” for a country that is a signatory to the Genocide Convention and has historically projected moral leadership on global issues.

Referencing Nigeria’s position at the United Nations General Assembly 80th Session, where Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the country’s commitment to human rights and international law, MPAC argued that such commitments must now be backed by concrete action.

“Nigeria cannot afford neutrality where justice is on trial,” the statement read.

The group outlined a series of demands, urging the federal government to formally join the ICJ proceedings as an intervening party, support international efforts to ensure accountability for alleged war crimes, and take a clear stand in defense of Palestinian lives and human rights.

MPAC warned that continued inaction could damage Nigeria’s global standing and undermine its stated commitments to justice and human dignity.

“History will not be kind to those who chose silence in the face of injustice,” the statement concluded.
