Outspoken Plateau State clergyman, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has revealed that foreign countries like Australia, Austria, and other European countries offered him asylum in the heat of alleged threats to his life and a bounty placed on his head by Islamist extremists.
The vocal man of God, who is the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state, however, said he turned down the offers as he prefers to stay in Nigeria and fight for persecuted Christians in Plateau, in particular, and Nigeria in general.
Dachomo, who made the revelations in an interview on Wednesday, said though the asylum offers came at a time when the death threats were coming daily, coupled with veiled warnings from the presidency, he had to reject them as he is neither a coward nor one who would abandon his flock for the safety of a foreign country.
The cleric insisted that even at the point of death, he will remain in the country and continue standing with his community as he is not afraid of those who want him dead but rather, they should be afraid of him.
“I can’t be afraid of them. They should be afraid of me. I’ve been offered asylum in Australia, Austria, and other countries but I said no. I’m going nowhere. I stand with them,” he said.
Dachomo added that though some friends, family members, and religious associates have advised him to accept the asylum offers, he has at no time,
contemplated abandoning his people who are still being persecuted by terrorists and Fulani bandits.
