The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has said his invitation to Governor Alex Otti to join the All Progressive Congress, APC was borne out of friendship and the interest of the party.

Kalu also denied the claims that he is blocking Governor Alex Otti from joining the APC.

The Deputy Speaker, who was addressing Journalists in his home at Bende, Bende LGA of Abia State on Friday, said it was through his ongoing party membership drive that former Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji joined the APC.

“Even the narrative that I want to block him from coming to APC is not true.

“If I was self-centered, I would have blocked him from entering APC but here I am the one inviting him to APC,” Kalu said. Being Governor is not the ultimate ambition for people like me.”

Kalu said he is much interested in attracting development to his Bende Federal constituency, saying that any decision about his future political ambition would be decided by the APC and the Abia people.

Kalu reiterated this support for the creation of one more state for the South East to enable the zone be at par with others.

According to him, the creation of one State in the South East would help in national cohesion, unity and progress.

The Deputy Speaker also dismissed reports that some ongoing roads he attracted to Bende, have been abandoned.
