The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Clement Ojukwu, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the party, dismissing reports of his alleged defection as false.
Ojukwu described the claims that he had moved from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “fake news,” stressing that he remains firmly committed to LP.
In a statement personally signed by him, Ojukwu said it would be unthinkable for him to abandon a party to which he devoted significant time, effort, and resources.
According to him, “There has been a misleading report making the rounds suggesting that I, Chief Clement Ojukwu, Gbazuoagu Nnewi, Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, have defected to the African Democratic Congress. This claim is completely untrue.
“I have neither defected nor do I intend to leave a party that I helped to build. I see no justification for walking away from a house into which I invested my energy and resources for an uncertain destination.”
He acknowledged that some of his political allies, including the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have chosen to align with the ADC. However, he emphasized that a large majority of LP supporters remain loyal and continue to support the party’s current leadership under Barrister Julius Abure, whom he serves as deputy.
Ojukwu expressed confidence that the Labour Party would weather the current challenges and emerge stronger, noting that the party remains committed to promoting the ideals of social democracy, which he believes Nigeria urgently needs.
Looking ahead, he stated that the party is optimistic about the future, particularly the 2027 elections. “We achieved remarkable results in 2023, and we are capable of doing so again,” he said.
He concluded by urging party faithful to stay calm, united, and hopeful, assuring them that better days lie ahead.
