Fuji music star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has formally withdrawn his lawsuit challenging the ongoing succession process for the Awujale of Ijebuland, effectively ending his bid to halt the installation of a new monarch.

Court documents show that the singer filed a notice of discontinuance at the Ogun State High Court, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, bringing to a close the legal action he instituted earlier this month to stop all processes leading to the emergence of the next Awujale.

KWAM 1 had approached the court on December 16, seeking an injunction to suspend the nomination and installation of a new Awujale pending the determination of issues he raised over the succession process.

The suit listed several state officials and traditional authorities as respondents, including the Ogun State Governor, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. Others named were the Secretary of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Chairman of the Funsengbuwa ruling house.

In a notice dated Monday, December 22, and filed by his legal team led by Wahab Shittu, the musician formally discontinued the case in line with Order 23 of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024.

“Take notice that the Claimant/Applicant herein wholly discontinues the above suit against the Defendant/Respondent pursuant to Order 23 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024 and under the inherent jurisdiction of this Honourable Court,” the notice stated.

Explaining the decision, KWAM 1 said the suit was prompted by correspondences from the second respondent dated December 2, 2025, which have since been withdrawn, removing the basis for his legal action.

He accordingly urged the court to formally record the discontinuance and make any orders it deemed appropriate.

The withdrawal brings an end to what had become a controversial legal challenge to the Awujale succession process, clearing the way for traditional authorities and the Ogun State government to proceed with the selection and installation of the next monarch of Ijebuland.
