I’m not a desperate politician, will remain in PDP – Abba Moro

Abba Moro, the senator representing Benue South and leader of the Senate minority, has reiterated his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he has no intention of leaving the party.

Moro made the declaration on Wednesday during a consultative session with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) chaired by Kabiru Turaki.

The opposition party has experienced a series of defections since the start of the year, but Moro insisted that he and other committed members would not abandon the PDP due to pressure or political intimidation.

“I want to inform you, Mr chairman, that many of us here are not poor or desperate politicians. We are in PDP to stay.

We are not in PDP for the sake of using the platform to win elections, and certainly not fixated on the 2027 elections. So, no amount of intimidating scenarios will push us out of PDP,” Moro said.

Describing the PDP as the only credible platform for democratic governance in Nigeria, the Senate minority leader urged the newly elected NWC to collaborate with party leaders to foster cohesion and unity.

“The national convention has come and gone. So, this responsibility falls on us, especially you (national chairman) and other members of the NWC, to salvage the situation. Yours is a very herculean task,” he added.

Kabiru Turaki, in his response, assured that the party is working to reposition itself.

“Our goal is to save this country from anti-democratic forces and salvage our multiparty democracy. The 2027 general elections are not about defections, but about Nigerians,” Turaki said.

He commended Moro and other PDP senators for their “principled stance,” describing them as “pillars of the party.”

Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), also lauded the party for the successful national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, and promised the BoT’s support for the Turaki-led NWC.

“From the early days of their tenure, it appears that our party is being repositioned, structures are being strengthened, and confidence is being restored across the federation,” Wabara said, emphasizing the need for unity and reconciliation, noting that the party must focus on healing.
