Ikeja Electric Plc on Wednesday announced that electricity bills issued without valid identification details will no longer be recognised, in compliance with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025), which took effect on January 1, 2026.

In a public notice, the company explained that all invoices, including electricity bills, must now carry at least one approved form of identification, either a Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Registration Number, or National Identification Number (NIN).

Customers have been asked to submit any of these details using a designated form provided by the company. The deadline for submission is February 13, 2026.

“The Nigeria Tax Act (2025), which came into effect on January 1, 2026, mandates that all invoices, including electricity bills, must contain at least one of the following identification details: Tax Identification Number, CAC Registration Number, or National Identification Number,” the notice stated.

The company warned that any invoice issued without the mandatory identification would be deemed invalid under the law. Customers who fail to comply may be unable to receive electricity bills after the deadline, which could lead to suspension of service.

Ikeja Electric urged customers to cooperate promptly to avoid disruptions, stressing that the directive is necessary to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and accurate billing records.
