A video emerged on Thursday on social media platforms showing the moment a woman was banished from the Umekpu Village, Ogbaku, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State for allegedly selling her sister-in-law’s son for N800,000.

In the video footage, the woman is seen being escorted out of the community by a crowd of villagers with derogatory songs and taunts while she carried her luggages.

A man who seemed to be one of the community leaders is also heard stating the reason why the woman was being banished from the community.

“We are banishing her from our community, Umekpu Village, Ogbaku, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State,” the man said.

“Why we are banishing her is because she did an evil thing and is not fit to live among us.

“She sold her sister-in-law’s son, that is the son of her brother’s wife for N800,000 and for that reason, we have to banish her,” the man said.

However, some commenters on X believe just banishing the woman is not the best punishment fit for her as she should be handed over to the police for proper prosecution and possible jail term.
