Authorities in Indonesia have arrested three foreign nationals- two French citizens and an Italian over allegations of producing and distributing pornographic content on the resort island of Bali, where such activities are prohibited under national law.

Police in Badung district confirmed on Tuesday that the suspects, comprising one woman and two men, are being investigated for allegedly attempting to profit from explicit video materials circulated online.

The Badung Police Chief, Joseph Edward Purba, told journalists that the trio is suspected of “seeking to profit from pornographic video and content.”

According to authorities, the suspects could face up to 10 years in prison for producing pornographic material, in addition to a possible six-year sentence for distributing such content via digital platforms.

Although Bali is a major tourist destination and predominantly Hindu, Indonesia, home to a Muslim-majority population, maintains strict laws prohibiting the production and dissemination of pornography.

Police said the arrests followed the circulation of a viral video on social media believed to contain explicit content linked to the suspects.

Investigators revealed that immigration officials apprehended the French woman, described as a content creator, and the Italian national last Friday as they attempted to leave Bali for Thailand.

The second French national, identified as the woman’s “manager,” was arrested days later in Badung.
