The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 20, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls will follow on March 6, 2027.
Announcing the timetable at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said: “The release of the timetable for the general election is in line with provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended.”
He explained that despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act, the commission had completed its schedule of activities. “The Presidential Election will hold on 20th February, 2027, while the governorship, senatorial and other elections will hold on the 6th of March, 2027,” Amupitan stated.

The chairman cautioned, however, that some aspects of the timetable could be affected depending on when lawmakers pass the amendment. “We have already submitted our recommendations and proposed changes to lawmakers, noting that aspects of the election calendar might still be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is passed,” he said.
Amupitan also urged political parties to begin mobilising voters ahead of the polls. “Political parties should intensify mobilisation of eligible voters and encourage them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the elections,” he added.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns that legislative delays could impact preparations for the 2027 general elections.
