The Kogi State government on Tuesday ordered the immediate closure of all primary and secondary schools, citing preventive security measures.
Pastor Reuben Jimoh, Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi, confirmed that the midterm break has been “fast-forwarded into the emergency lockdown,” adding that schools will resume on February 16.
State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, described the closure as a precautionary move based on credible intelligence.
Speaking to newsmen in Lokoja, he stressed that the decision “was not borne out of panic, but of responsibility,” and that authorities acted proactively to prevent potential incidents.
Fanwo said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed relevant agencies to ensure schools resume safely without disrupting the academic calendar.
He also commended security agencies for their “timely and actionable intelligence,” highlighting the effectiveness of Kogi’s security framework.
