The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called on Nigerian youths not to let present economic difficulties weaken their resolve to build the nation they envision.

The advice was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Babatunde Alao, on Saturday in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo made the remarks on Friday while receiving an Award of Excellence in Public Service from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

He described young Nigerians as the country’s greatest asset, stressing that their courage, ideas, and conviction will determine Nigeria’s future.

“You are the keepers of the future. Your ideas, courage, conviction and curiosity will determine the direction of our nation,” he said.

The minister noted that Nigeria’s progress depends on unity, institutional reform, and renewed national spirit. He said the award reaffirmed his belief that Nigeria is “rising” through collective determination, despite ongoing challenges.

Tunji-Ojo emphasised that national renewal is already underway, strengthened by courage, faith, and shared responsibility. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for providing the framework for reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the president’s vision as one of efficiency, compassion, and confidence.

He dedicated the award to Nigerian youths, civil servants, his family, and President Tinubu, while also thanking OAU leadership for upholding integrity and service.

Reflecting on reforms since assuming office in 2023, Tunji-Ojo highlighted the automation of passport processes and clearance of backlogs, which he said have improved border management and professionalism in the Nigeria Immigration Service.

In his remarks, OAU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Bamire, commended the minister for his effective leadership and service delivery, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the university.
